PORE Clogging Ingredients
ACNE STARTS LIFE AS A CLOGGED PORE.
All acne starts with a clogged pore. Clogged pores can be the result of a combination of dead skin cells, bacteria, and oil or a comedogneic ingredient found in skincare products and makeup. Have you ever walked down a skincare aisle and seen “Non-comedogenic”, “Acne friendly”, “Oil-free”, Won’t Clog Pores” ? Unfortunately these claims are meaningless and you need to dig a little bit deeper.
“Non-comedogenic” is a marketing term used in the skincare products and makeup to indicate that a product does not contain pore clogging ingredients, therefore it will not cause breakouts. So if a company states that their product is noncomedogenic, does this mean its safe for acne prone skin? Absolutely not!
Many over the counter acne products have pore clogging ingredients in them (which is why they sometimes work for a while, but then stop working as the pore clogging ingredients overpower the acne fighting ingredients.)
Products like Retin-A and claims, check the ingredient deck on the product for pore clogging ingredients. This is one of the easiest ways to prevent clogged pores and breakouts. Make sure that all of your skincare products and makeup products are free from pore-clogging ingredients by becoming a pore clogging ingredient detective.
ProActive are loaded with pore cloggers. Just check the label! Don’t be fooled by marketingOur entire line is based on products that will not only clear your pores and improve your skins general health, but will not inadvertently clog your pores due to pore clogging ingredients in the formulation.
Remember that while these may be a trigger for acne, this is NOT the main cause of your acne. Acne is a genetic condition of the skin overproducing too many dead skin cells (a process called retention hyperkeratosis). For some, taking out a supplement or skincare product with a pore clogger that triggers acne may do the trick. However, in most cases, acne will also need to be treated with topical products and an effective home-care regimen.

ACNE TIPS
• Reduce stress and get enough sleep!
Stress stimulates the oil gland and in acne-prone individual, the adrenal gland promotes oil production which leads to clogged pores.
• No picking or squeezing!
Instead rub ice on pimples for 2 minutes, twice a day. Try to get them when they are first forming and they will most likely go away.
• Use fragrance free detergents!
Examples of these are Cheer Free, All Free & Clear, and Tide Free.
• No frabric softener!
Do not use dry sheets in the washer and/or dryer. The waxy residue gets on your pillowcases, towels, and sheets that have direct contact with skin. It will clog pores on acne-prone individuals. Instead try anti-static balls at bed bath and beyond!
• Wear Sunscreen!
Sun exposure damages the follicle, exacerbates hyper pigmentation, causes skin cancer and premature aging.
• No "Lo" dose birth control pills!
Avoid low estrogen birth control pills. "Lo" pills are higher in androgen hormones that can make acne-prone skin worse.
• For swimmers!
Swimming pool disinfects contain iodides and chlorine, which remains in the water, causing skin problems for frequent swimmers. Apply a thin layer of vaseline prior to swimming to prevent the solutions from entering your pores.
